March 12, 2005

At Sue Harding’s Farm, Chuluota, Florida

$75 per riding participant, $50 per non-riding participant

Limited number of stalls available for $10/day

Mobile Horse Supply is proud to sponsor our first (of more, hopefully) judging forums designed for the rider. There will be no auditors, as all attendees will be actively participating. Our guest judge, Nancy Harris, “S” judge and FEI competitor, will be helping us this first time. This is what we have planned:

Riding participants:

Rider will ride through the first half of his/her chosen test, which will be scored by both Nancy and other forum participants. The ride will also be videotaped at “C,” next to the judge. Nancy will then go over scores, compare them with other participants, and along with viewing the video of the test, describe why those scores were given and how the scores could be improved. The riding participant will then complete the second half of the test, and repeat the process.

Other rider participants will then switch places and be at the other end of the judging process. Each rider/horse combination may complete the test of their choice and will take home a video of their clinic.

Non-riding participants:

Other forum participants will be actively scoring and discussing rides with our judge. Nancy is a wonderful speaker and she is excellent at explaining the judging process as she is quite active at both judging and competing.

We hope this is a great learning experience, as well as one where we can encourage and learn from each other. The only requirement is that all participants leave their egos at the gate! We will serve lunch and drinks for the day. Sue Harding has graciously allowed us to use her facility Chuluota. She has a wonderful ring with good footing and a quiet, relaxed setting.

Bo Jena clinic held at Rebel Ridge Farm

Great weather and great people!

Mobile Horse Supply sponsored a clinic with Mr. Bo Jena this month in Anthony at Charlotte & Chris Trentleman’s beautiful facility. Bo is the head dressage instructor at the state stud and riding school in Sweden, the Flyinge. He is also an FEI judge in Europe. Apparently in Sweden, the winter has become somewhat bitter already, so Bo was thrilled, (as was I), with 75-80 degree temperatures all three days. He was also very pleased with the clinic participants. He mentioned more than once, what great attitudes they had and how willing to learn they all were. We also had many nice horses, from training level to Grand Prix.

Nancy on Rugelah

I, as always, learned several vital things the hard way. But I now have a better understanding of what is appropriate for the training of the pony I show.  Nancy Harris, riding Rugelah, had everyone wowing at the pair’s talent. “Rugie” is a massive presence that can appear light as a feather and can sit through piaffe amazingly. Maya Sniadesky brought a couple of incredible youngsters, Frisco and Flirt, the latter of which was invited to go back to Sweden. Martha Little brought Ravel and Figaro, a Preliminary event horse. Sandy Wagner lessoned with her older Swedish stallion, Asterix, which is a horse Bo actually showed as a youngster in Sweden. Kemper Penney brought Olekele for 3 days of long-lining, which was very interesting to watch. By the third day, what a difference!  Lisa Dufresne brought Black Georg. This pair has worked with Bo for several years now and are really doing well - they were even Reserve Champions at the Region 3 championships this year at 4th level. Charise Rowell of Chuluota brought 2 lovely young mares and Charise, herself, received quite a compliment from Bo when he told her how wonderful she was to teach. Sharon Jerdeman brought Falconer and I brought my pony, Molly.

The nice thing now, is that Bo is getting to know the repeat riders and their horses. It’s as if we just pick up where we left off. He is quick to praise improvements and just as quick to fix the newly acquired habits. He also worked with Jenny Jarnstrom, a Swedish buddy, who brought her newly approved 3-yr old Swedish stallion by Robin Z, Papillon Z. Bo really likes the youngster and couldn’t believe how much he’s grown up. She also rode my stallion, Chant de Paix, with whom Bo seemed very pleased, as well.

We hope to have Bo back the beginning of March, so contact me soon if you are interested. We will probably only get him for 2 days the next time, so plan early. It’s looking like the dates will be March 1st and 2nd. Thanks again for the great facility and all the help everyone gives. See you next time!
